   Hot Work

Get Certified Today

If you're doing any kind of work involving flames or producing heat, you are required to follow the safety procedures governing hot work. This includes soldering, brazing, cutting, welding, pipe thawing, drilling, tapping and many other activities common to construction work.

And that's not all!

Some municipalities are requiring contractors to pull hot work permits in order to perform work in their jurisdiction. In fact, as of July 18, 2018, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts made hot work certification mandatory for all workers performing hot work in any Massachusetts city or town. That means you're already subject to the new requirements.

During the recent update of the Massachusetts Fire Code, The Board of Fire Prevention Regulations also adopted Massachusetts amendments to the code to address situations unique to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Part of those amendments specifically exempted licensed plumbers and gas fitters from having to obtain this three hour certification training provided they previously obtained approved training through the Plumbing Board. As most or you know, that training was provided if you attended the Continuing Education Session 10 class.

Unfortunately, we are only exempt from this additional training while we are working under the scope of our plumbing and/or gas fitting license. The exemption does not apply to those of us who also work on heating and air conditioning. This means that most plumbers will need the additional Hot Work Safety Certificate Training Course all other industry professionals need in order to be compliant with these regulations.

PHCC of MA is offering both daytime and evening classes for your convenience, and you can select the one that's best for you. Your certified PHCC instructor will take you through the ins and outs of hot work and why it's so important in our industry.

Classes are being offered in Agawam, Auburn, Boston, Brockton, Braintree, Framingham, Franklin, Greenfield, Hyannis and Middleboro. They're also offered in New Bedford, North Adams, Norwell, Stoughton, South Yarmouth, Watertown and Woburn. Daytime classes run from 8:00am until 11:30am, and evening classes run from 5:00pm until 7:30pm.

  Boot Camp

Introducing the PHCC Test Prep Boot Camp

Passing the exam is the one and only focus of this intensive, two-day training workshop. Unlike other prep courses with endless math problems to work on and obsolete test questions to practice with, THIS course is jam-packed full of relevant, up-to-date information that you'll see on the current Journeyman and Master license exams. It's led by our own expert instructors who have years of experience training contractors just like you, and more importantly, who understand your dislike of exams.

Your Boot Camp will be held on September 9, 2018 (Saturday and Sunday), to minimize time-off from work. And because the two days are back-to-back, you'll retain the information much better when you leave. It will be conducted at our training facility in Braintree, conveniently located close to the junction of Routes 3, 93 and 95. Here's a sampling of what will be covered:

  • Detailed review of regulations the exam focuses on
  • Overview of drawings and sample questions regarding them
  • Easy, step-by-step approaches to the math calculations you'll need
  • Focused review of the sizing tables you'll need to know
  • A fresh look at the NFPA gas code and where Mass code changes it
  • Test-taking strategies to help you pass your exam the FIRST time
  • Hands-on practice testing in the classroom, to make you comfortable
  • Everything you need to ACE the exam with ease
